VBC Senior Choir Programme (SCP) is our core programme for experienced singers* aged 7-14 years old. It aims to inspire children to relate their choral skills and abilities to the making of arts through their competent voices.

The repertoire includes adaptions from sacred choral works, secular vocal pieces, opera arias, art songs and a wide range of songs from different countries, cultures and languages.

Students with exceptionally good performance may be promoted to VBC Academy Concert Choir (ACC) through VBCMA conductor’s recommendation as early as age 9.

*Students with no choral experience might need to take additional vocal trainings before joining SCP.

SCP Elements

Vocal Skills – Emphasis will be placed on resonance, expansion of the vocal range, breathing, posture, articulation, and intonation, within a creative environment for excellence.

Ensembleship – To produce harmony, every single voice counts. The aim of ear training is to help singers listen to one another and adjust accordingly so that all voices can blend seamlessly. Students will familiarise themselves with various conducting gestures.

Music Skills – Through singing, children will be exposed to a diverse range of repertoire in different styles and of different genres, origins, cultures, and languages. Basic music theory and history will also be touched on in order to help gain a thorough understanding of different music.

Artistic Sensibility – Singing in a choir helps children acquire a deep awareness of others, as they develop arts collectively. This mutual artistic exchange enables children to be more compassionate with empathy.

Interpretation and Performance Skills – Children will be given opportunities to perform for an audience to gain stage experience. Interpretation, the ability to put thoughts and feelings into the voices will be another focal point of the training.
